JAM PACKED PRAGUE (pt. 4)

on the way back to our hotel, we walked through an easter market. this was the petting zoo, and oh! how i want a pygmy goat now! (but not really, because you can't have farm animals and travel and goats can be really annoying, i've heard, so maybe someday.) this one sure was cute. 


see, this is the tights with shorts look that europe just embraces in the winter. she is changing it up with purple tights. fierce.

these are folk dancers about to go dance on stage in traditional folk costumes! I LOVED THIS!

see? i really, really loved it. 

now that's a museum you want to go to!

yeah, they're not too afraid of using sexuality in advertising. but a sausage? really?? isn't that just... egregious?

afternoon pick-me-up: TRDELNIK. rolled into topes, rolled around a long wooden dowel, roasted over coals while rotating, and sprinkled with toffee, sugar, almonds and cinnamon as it cooks. then rolled in all that stuff before you eat it. good thing you can only get them in prague. really. really, really good thing. 

ryan liked to slowly get behind me and take my picture. if he starts a blog, he can show them to you. mostly, i look stupid. but this one is not terrible. now you know what ryan likes to do on vacation. he's kind of a creeper. :)

we changed for dinner, and then went to propaganda pub for dinner. GO HERE. it's awesome. and not too expensive. the theme is soviet propaganda, so the servers all wear the camp shirts and neck kerchiefs of the soviet youth group, and there are posters, and postcards, and photos all over, making you feel almost as if you were in soviet occupied prague... but mostly glad that you aren't. 


we got pierogies, and far too many of them. ryan's had meat, and mine were potato and cheese. actually, that was the theme of my meal. potato. just wait:


this is my potato soup and our garlic bread. it's sour rye, fried in butter. then you take the garlic clove and rub it on the bread. this is what makes is taste like garlic. if you don't know this, and your husband asks for more, the waitress will ask you why you don't like garlic, and then you will know that you failed the czech garlic bread test. but the next plate is really wonderful. and now, dear reader, if you find yourself in prague: rub the garlic on the bread. that's what it's for. 



and the vegetable plate. which was mashed potatoes (yeah, i couldn't eat those. that's too much potato) and grilled veggies, which were amazing. 

ryan got a roasted pork knuckle. he liked it A LOT. 


we really wanted to try some absinthe on this trip. we decided, based on extensive research (looking at all the signs advertising it), that prague was where we would try it. this time, we asked the waitress to explain the process to us step by step, so we wouldn't screw it up. here is what she said: 

take absinthe. 

fill spoon with sugar, and slightly dampen with absinthe, leaving the sugar in the spoon. balance the spoon on the glass. 

like so. 

now set that sucker ON FIRE! (this is why i thought i should try absinthe. i love setting things on fire. i'm a little bit of a pyro that way.) 

then, after it goes out, you stir the burnt sugar in your glass, and you can add water, if you are a sissy like me, but then you have more of it to drink, so i don't know that i recommend that. absinthe is a lot to handle. also, i just remembered: i do not care for black licorice. especially in liquid form.

(the mushrooms are bad influences.)

and that is the propaganda pub. and it is amazing. and if you have absinthe, you will think EVERYTHING is amazing. 




this is a water pump in the middle of the square, so you can wash your hands, or what not. it really works. i tested it.
