CONTEST

okay, so here's the deal. i'd prefer a little more interaction on this. it feels like i'm writing to an empty room, or a journal, but there are real people out there. look at you, there you are. real!

so, every few days (about 3 per country) i'll post a question that i could not discover the answer to. sometimes it'll be because i don't have internet, and then it'll be easy. sometimes it won't be.

the first person to CORRECTLY answer the question will get a small souvenir from the country your question was about. and i'll start with one from yesterday's, just because i'm too lazy to google it.

show me photo of the las vegas daffodil in bloom, and you win something tulip related from holland.

keukenhof gardens...

while summer might really be the best time to travel in europe weather wise, spring is supposed to be the most incredible time to be in holland, especially mid march to mid-may, because it's TULIP season. and keukenhof is only open for those 2 months also. we were going to go on one of our last days here in april... but since we're here now, why not check it off the list?

scones on the train, mmmm

apparently, if you go to keukenhof in about 3 weeks, there are stripes of all different colors, not just yellow. but alas. we went in march.

leiden train station. now we get on the bus, which seems really hard, because the place where all the regular buses are doesn't have bus #54, and that's what you need. then we saw a specialty keukenhof bus drive by. ah. there's a special queue.

here's some purple stripes, from the bus...

these were cool fountains.

these look like handkerchiefs. they are so pretty.

i think mid- to late april is the time to come to keukenhof. there were lots of plants just starting, and quite a few that weren't blooming yet. it was still amazing.

i believe these to be swan's behinds.

matching.

striped crocus!

just a man on a horse. no, really. just a guy on a horse.

if you can show me what these daffodils look like when they are in bloom, i will give you a present. (no, really. send me a link to a photo of las vegas' daffodils, and i will give you a present).

these are the coolest stepping stones ever.

it's the law, i tell ya. you have to.

and here come some sculptures....

wooden shoe boots, pumps, etc...

wooden shoe suckers! (i did not get one.)

tulip suckers!

here's an old VW someone's using for a planter...

spiky tulip. don't mess with this one. he'll cut you.

how cool are these flower pots on the fence?

me and a turquoise garden.

so, remember when i said that there are a lot of plants not blooming yet? guess what? there's a greenhouse FULL of bulb plants of all colors. behold:

these ones are gross.

i love this one. he looks like all his edges were burnt off.

i was worried that they would take away ryan's passport if he didn't do a klompen photo. whew. now they won't.

look! marzipan tulips you can eat!

there are a lot of photos here, but i have more. tulips as big as my hand, i tell you!
