once again, some not dutch food...

one thing you will learn very quickly walking around amsterdam is that the dutch are big fans of international cuisine. part of this is because of the dutch east india company, the first multinational corporation in the world. since this was an international city very early in it's history, the food reflects that. we've only eaten 4-5 traditionally dutch foods, and most of those were snacks. anyway.

we went back (this was visit 2) to bazar, for turkish food. i'd read to have the turkish breakfast and i didn't follow that advice the time before. it was time to fix it.

it's a really big, really beautiful place. lots to look at...

ryan's turkish chicken wings. (he's so daring!)

hummus and almonds...

and here's a (blurry part) of breakfast: a crepe and yogurt with fruit, and...

all of this. honey, apricot jam, an egg, cheese, weird sausage (no really, it was a little weird), and all these cheesy, creamy things. it was a LOT. how could you eat all this for breakfast??

ryan had a bunch of meat on sticks. he loves meat on sticks. he orders it all the time.

mint tea infusion...

and for dessert? pişmaniye. i've wanted to try this ever since i saw a food network special where someone was making it by hand. it's a little like cotton candy, but the sugar is spun and repeatedly dipped between twistings in cornstarch. it was delicious.

and also entertaining.
