last day in paris...

(this is really what came before and after shopping earlier, just so you know...)

on our honeymoon, we had the same breakfast 3 out of 4 mornings. here it is:

yeah, we had it again here. this is how everyone in paris knows you aren't french: you take a big ol' bite out of your baguette while on the street. oh well.

looks unassuming.  no, this is in fact the best bread, and the best butter i've ever had. there's big chunks of crystal salt in this normandy butter, and that's poilane bread- made that morning, still crusty and very sour- just the way i like it.

sacre-couer! finally! i am so happy! (also- it's all uphill to sacre couer. just so you know.)

see? there's paris...

if you've read the outlander books by diana gabaldon (and you should, if you haven't. well...ladies, you should, if you haven't.) you might know about perpetual adoration. they've been practicing it at sacre couer since the church began construction.

i took this. look how pretty the sky is!

then we had dinner in montmartre, at chez eugene. this was ryan's favorite meal in paris, and both of us wish we had gone up to montmarte first-- it looks like a really fun area, and there were lots of bistros that looked fun. i really, really, really wanted a frisee aux lardons salad. i had it in my head that i had to have one in paris. i don't think it's the season for frisee. there were none to be found. put me right on tilt, which is why i didn't order better. but i RECOMMEND this place.

i lied about not having any more. and this was the best french onion soup i had in paris.

ryan's starter: some smoked salmon.

the band. they ruled. here are some songs they played: mellow yellow (one verse in french, i'll sing it for you later), L is for the way you Look at me, gone people by jack johnson, and lots more. i loved them. this is the reason you need to come to chez eugene.

that's the ceiling.

mine: hot goat cheese salad. i shouldn't have ordered this. it was my own fault.

ryan's duck confit. he LOVED this. and i quote: "it tastes like pot roast, with a whole bunch of the best crispy chicken skin on top".

see? he's so happy, my little carnivore...

ryan's dessert, and by ryan's, of course i mean mine. this is profiteroles. this is the only plate i finished in paris. and how:

nom nom nom. i will make these for you. you will like them, i promise.

the waiter. he was busy, so i didn't have the heart to tell him the photo was blurry and i needed another.

yeah, we vote yes. au revoir, paris! see you in 8-10 years, or 3-4 big trips, as ryan says!

  1. so like, can you recreate all those delicious looking dishes or teach me how? I'm drooling with food envy right now (added on to my Paris envy, added on to my European extravaganza envy), especially as I am staring at left overs or frozen dinners as the only things edible in our house right now.
